Core Curriculum Clinics and the Homework Centre

At Chesterhouse we believe that academic support for those pupils that need assistance must be given at the school by our own teachers who know the pupils well and can identify with their particular barrier within a specific section of a specific subject. It is for this reason that we offer Core Curriculum clinics for English, Afrikaans, Mathematics,  Art and Science free of charge in the afternoons after school. Clinics are taken by teachers that teach these subjects (often the Head of Department) and focus on the areas that pupils need assistance in. Pupils can elect to attend a clinic or the suggestion is made by the subject teacher in order to assist the pupil. Parents are informed if their child is requested to attend a clinic. This programme is on offer for all pupils in the Senior School

The College Homework Centre

I am the College Homework Coordinator and I would like to introduce myself and share the vision of the Centre with you. I hold an Honours degree in Psychology and I completed my Professional Counsellor internship at a school which caters for children with learning and physical disabilities. During my internship I administered psychometric tests and provided counselling services. I have experience in academic, trauma and grief counselling.

The Homework Centre operates from 14:15 to 18:00 Monday to Friday.  The Centre provides a structured study environment where students are able to complete their homework  and where they are able to study undisturbed.  I also conduct individual psychological assessments to determine the student’s specific academic needs. This allows me to construct study methods which would be most suitable for the student. Academic counselling is also part of the programme as it assists in identifying any factors which may negatively influence the student’s academic progress and well-being. This may be of an academic, personal or environmental nature.

The focus of the Homework Centre is to provide after-hours academic support and an academic advantage so that your child may realise his or her full potential. I can be contacted any time at n.lawrence@chesterhouse.co.za
