The Chesterhouse Outdoor Education programme is an essential part of our educational offerings; learning beyond the classroom a very important aspect to ensure that our children experience a wide variety of educational settings.
In order to prepare our children for this important part of their education we introduce our younger children in Year 1 to an activity evening at school and the Year 2’s to a sleepover at school on a Friday evening – many activities done during this evening are similar to camping activities.
Children in the Junior School begin their excursions in various camps around the peninsula in Year 3 enabling our children at Chesterhouse to foster a love and appreciation for creation; enabling them to learn valuable skills such as survival outdoors and emergency first aid. It provides our children with an opportunity for them to develop their leadership skills and interact with other children in a way that they would not normally interact with others.
It also provides teachers who attend the outings with a deeper insight to the individual personalities and temperaments of the children they teach.
Class outings
Our children throughout our Junior School enjoy outings during the year in keeping with the themes that are learnt in class. Venues such as the MTN Sciencentre, Butterfly World, the Two Oceans Aquarium, the Castle of Good Hope, the Planetarium and several fire stations are visited and expand what is learnt in the classroom.
